Dr. Sterett has been a leader in orthopaedics in the Vail Valley for over 25 years. He completed his Fellowship training at Vail's Steadman-Hawkins Clinic back in 1993. After his fellowship training, he decided to seek a second fellowship in orthopaedic trauma, studying in Switzerland and Germany.
Soon thereafter, his mentors Dr. Richard Steadman and Dr. Richard Hawkins offered him an opportunity to grow the two-person Steadman-Hawkins Clinic to its current size and world-renown stature. By 2011, Dr. Sterett had been a managing partner at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic for 12 years and was among the busiest ACL and complex knee surgeons in the country.
True to his love for this mountain community, Dr. Sterett turned down some of the best known sports medicine centers in the country to join Vail-Summit Orthopaedics. He saw in VSO the same passion for community that has defined his career from day one. He recognized that his new colleagues at VSO are some of the best-trained orthopaedic surgeons in the world, and that they shared his devotion to putting the needs of patients above all else. Dr. Sterett admired the team environment at VSO, and knew that his experience with team sports (both playing on teams and serving teams with medical expertise) would make for a unique fit.
Dr. Sterett has been the Head Team Physician for the US Women's Ski Team since 1997 and was The Athletic Training Fellowship Director and Founder at the Steadman Clinic in Vail. He has also served as US Olympic Committee Team Physician for the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, and was the Medical Director, Eagle County School District from 1997-2011.
Dr. Dorf is board-certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. After completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia, Dr. Dorf completed his hand and upper extremity fellowship at Wake Forest University, Baptist Medical Center.
In addition to being team physician for Summit High School and The Medical director for Team Summit, Dr. Dorf is also an active member of the US Ski & Snowboard Physician Pool, and enjoys the challenges associated with the care of high level athletes.
As a Fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dorf is uniquely qualified to bring advanced knowledge into all areas of orthopaedics for the VSO Athletic Training Fellowship Program. Born and raised in Eagle County, Dr. Dorf was a cyclist, skier, and hockey player before becoming an orthopaedic surgeon. He still participates in all of these activites.
Dr. Dorf has an active teaching style and loves having students in his clinic. Since joining VSO 10 years ago Dr. Dorf has had 3 students go on to become orthopaedic surgeons, 3 of his team members have gone on to careers as Physicians assistants, and he has mentored numerous students into fields as ATC’s and Physical therapists.
Ryan has been a certified athletic trainer since 2008. He earned his B.A. in Athletic Training from Rowan University and then his Master’s degree in Advanced Athletic Training from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. After his education, Ryan completed a one-year Athletic Training Fellowship with the Steadman Clinic in Vail working both in the clinic and high school settings. During that time he also provided medical coverage for the US Ski Team and Dew Tour.
Ryan is a certified member of National Athletic Trainer’s Association, a certified Orthopedic Technologist, and DORA registered Surgical Assistant. He joined Dr. Sterett's team at Vail Summit Orthopedics in 2014. Currently, he has been Practice Coordinator for Dr. Sterett utilizing the skills he learned during his fellowship program.
